Hello, and welcome to the Just Transition Alliance Podcast! This show is dedicated to centering and consensually amplifying the experiences, insights, and demands of frontline workers and fenceline communities united for justice. I’m Catalina de Onís, the Communications and Training Associate at the Just Transition Alliance, or JTA. We are very excited to introduce this new show! In future episodes, we’ll feature movement topics, experiences, and intersectional justice struggles, as we build the communities and relationships we need and that we know are possible.

Since 1997, JTA has brought together environmental justice groups and local unions to challenge polluting extractive industries causing harm to and poisoning communities and workers. Today, we continue to honor our commitment to Mother Earth and the wellbeing of all people and work toward fundamental systemic changes that can deliver economic justice and healthy environments for Indigenous Peoples, people of color, and low-income, working-class communities.

In the urgent transition away from fossil fuels and other inherently harmful industries, we strive to cultivate transformative relationships among frontline workers and fenceline communities to produce good, safe jobs and flourishing, healthy environments.

In the episodes to come, we’ll interview JTA board and staff members, including our organization’s much revered and path-making executive director, José T. Bravo.

[José’s voice:] “I think we all have a kinship to our Mother Earth, and we can’t forget that. And we have to understand that who we are, and what we are, and what we’re struggling for is the right thing to do. If it was not the right thing to do, there would not be any push back.”

We also hope to speak with sister alliance members and other groups that align with and inform our work. In addition to interviews, we plan to share updates on our popular education and policy advocacy—from local initiatives to transborder mobilizations. These interconnected efforts and relationships are dedicated to the collective refusal of extractivism and greenwashed false solutions, while co-creating pathways toward frontline-led approaches to just transition.

We thank you for tuning into this introductory episode and hope you’ll join us for future conversations. Follow us on Facebook, Bluesky, and Instagram with the @jtalliance handle. Let’s keep up the fight for and with frontline workers and fenceline communities united for justice! Until next time!
